Crossover / Surf SUPs

Crossover / Surf SUPs are the style of board that started it all and is what many people start off with. Crossover SUP's are wide, stable platforms that can paddle flat water and catch small waves. But just like any piece of equipment that is designed to "do it all" they excel at neither. Most are 29"-32" wide and 4" to 5" thick. They provide tons of flotation (Bamboozle 11'6") and can handle lots of weight - perfect if you want to take your dog or child along with you. If you are looking for the perfect crossover board that can actually hold its own in the surf the Robert August WIP is a good choice. Most of these boards come with a single fin and two side fins (sidebites). We suggest not using the side fins unless catching waves. SUPS that are designed with catching waves in mind (Laird Arrow 10'6") will have a lower volume (thickness), be narrower and have greater rocker (less board in the water means easier to turn). While they may absolutely rip it up in the surf (BOGA Bullet) you don't want to find yourself having to cover a great distance in flatwater on one of these babies.
